Artist: Roderick Thackray
Weaving Fates by Roderick Thackray is a quietly contemplative reflection on the lives shaped by Britains industrial heartlands. Mill buildings rise from the landscape with calm inevitability, their forms woven into the surrounding terrain much as industry itself was once woven into everyday life.
The softened light and muted palette lend the scene a sense of stillness and continuity rather than decline. These are not ruins or monuments, but working structures remembered with familiarity and respect. Thackray’s careful handling of perspective and surface allows the buildings to feel inhabited by history, shaped as much by people who laboured within them as by stone and brick.
A self taught artist now in his eighties, Thackray paints from experience rather than observation alone. His lifelong connection to mills and mining , including once part owning a mine, gives his work a rare authenticity. The title suggests the unseen human stories bound together by work, place and time.
Ideal for collectors drawn to British industrial heritage, northern identity and art grounded in honesty and social memory. It sits naturally alongside Thackray’s other mill works or stands confidently on its own as a thoughtful statement piece.
