About us

Our Story

The story of Jarva Gallery began in 2009, when artist and founder Lyndsey Selley sold one of her original wildlife paintings at Christie’s Auction House in New York.

What started as a simple need for studio space while her home studio was being built led Lyndsey to open the first 'Jarva Gallery & Picture Framers' in Whaley Bridge. Intended as a temporary 12-month venture, the gallery quickly flourished, evolving into a 15-year success story built on creativity, community, and a deep passion for original art.

In March 2024, the Whaley Bridge gallery closed its doors to focus fully on the next chapter; the continued growth of Jarva Gallery, and its expansion with a second location 'Jarva Fine Art' located within the beautiful Crescent Hotel in Buxton.

Now reimagined and rebranded, Jarva Gallery continues to celebrate exceptional contemporary art, sculpture, and craftsmanship connecting collectors and artists through an inspiring, welcoming space that reflects the spirit of its origins.

The Origin of 'jarva'

Jarva the leopard original painting by Lyndsey Selley

The name Jarva holds deep personal significance for gallery founder Lyndsey Selley, taken from her travels to South Africa, where she gathered reference material for her wildlife paintings.

During one of these trips, she encountered a magnificent leopard named Jarva by the locals, it quickly became a lasting muse for Lyndsey, inspiring many of her original artworks and limited-edition prints.

When it came time to open her first gallery, it felt only fitting to honour the leopard that sparked so much creativity. Jarva has become synonymous with her celebrated wildlife art, and remains a symbol of the spirit that continues to define the gallery today.

The Future of Jarva Gallery

With the addition of Ellie Meads, Jarva Gallery enters a new era, proudly independent and family-run.

Rooted in Lyndsey Selley’s experience as a professional artist, our focus remains on bringing exceptional art and sculpture to collectors and first-time buyers alike. We believe art should be enjoyed, not guarded, taking the pretence out of art collecting and replacing it with genuine connection, curiosity, and joy.

As we look ahead, Jarva will continue to grow both online and within our local community, while exhibiting at art fairs across the UK. Our aim is simple: to curate art for inspired living, and to share our passion with those who value creativity, craftsmanship, and authenticity.
