The Contemporary Lava Ceramic Tall Vessel by ceramic artist Jon Bull is a bold exploration of texture, surface and form. With its tall cylindrical silhouette and softly rounded base, the piece has a strong architectural presence while retaining an organic, handcrafted character.

The richly textured, lava like surface gives the vessel a raw, stone inspired quality, enhanced by carved linear patterns that wrap around the form. Though vessel in shape, this work functions as a contemporary sculptural object bringing strength and tactile interest to interior spaces.

After developing several different Lava glazes of varying colours and surface qualities Jon cross blends them to get the result which you see. The glazes are a mixture of sprayed, dipped and painted glazes. They are built up and fired multiple times. Each piece is thoroughly planned specifically for the shape and size. Jon uses subtle blends to enhance the shape and form. All of Jon’s work is hand thrown, working on the wheel.
