Koffins (Bryan Houessou)

Koffins (Bryan Houessou)

Born in Togo in 1999, Koffins (Bryan Houessou) moved to France at the age of 17. Initially pursuing a degree in accounting and management, he soon felt compelled to leave that path behind in search of something more meaningful. Entirely self-taught, his artistic journey began in 2021 following a pivotal visit to the Louvre, an experience he describes as an inner awakening, revealing art as the only language that truly resonated with him.

Koffins first explored creativity through customising clothing, transforming jeans and shoes into expressive, wearable pieces. By early 2023, he had fully transitioned into painting, developing a deeply personal practice rooted in authenticity and introspection. His work is shaped by lived experience, particularly the emotional complexity of becoming a father at a young age, where themes of responsibility, solitude, and the pursuit of freedom converge and evolve into powerful visual narratives.

His paintings act as cathartic expressions, unveiling raw emotional landscapes that are both intimate and universal. Through his work, Koffins seeks to create an honest dialogue with the viewer, inviting reflection and connection within the more vulnerable spaces of the human experience.

In a remarkably short time, Koffins has held two solo exhibitions and sold hundreds of works internationally, notably through Catawiki. With a growing global audience and an expanding presence across online platforms, he continues to forge an independent path, attracting increasing attention from collectors and galleries alike.
