Born in Orléans in 1981, Benoît Havard has been painting since childhood, developing a distinctive voice shaped by travel, light, and emotion. After formal training at the École des Beaux-Arts de Cherbourg, he refined his practice through extensive journeys, eventually embracing oils and palette knife technique as his signature language.
Havard’s luminous urban landscapes capture the spirit rather than the detail of a place. Inspired by cities such as London, Paris, and New York, his works translate fleeting moments of light, movement, and atmosphere into radiant compositions alive with colour and energy. Under the decisive stroke of the palette knife, textures emerge through transparency, streaks, and layered pigment, creating depth and rhythm within the scene.
Working from photographic reference, Havard reshapes each subject into his own poetic vision. Warm tones glow against cool blue-greys, while figures, cars, and city life appear only after the atmospheric foundation is established. The result is a harmony that balances realism and abstraction, memory and sensation.
Exhibited across Europe since 2004, Havard’s work is held in notable private collections, including Louis Vuitton. His paintings appeal to collectors drawn to contemporary impressionism, vibrant cityscapes, and art that brings warmth, movement, and light into the home.
